Websites that rule – Part 12 [the YouTube channel edition]

It sounds cliché, but it’s hard to believe it’s been more than a year since I did one of these.  This installment of my Websites That Rule series is a bit of a departure, in that it’s not individual websites, per se, but channels from a single website: YouTube.  I’ve become a Big Tech Skeptic in the past few years, but I’ll still readily admit that there’s a ton of excellent, valuable information on YouTube that can be had for free.

I respect those content creators, too, for taking the time to make and post these videos.  Several of the channels below have literally changed my life.  And my life has been changed–for the (much) better–in multiple ways by watching these videos.

So, I hope you enjoy!  I’ve divided them into categories based on individual topics, in case that helps.

Psychology / Relationships / Self-Help:

Dr Ramani – this was the first channel I watched for the purposes of gleaning information.  Back in about 2019, a good friend was going through marriage difficulties and had found these videos.  She shared them with me, hoping to help me understand the type of personality she was dealing with.

On her channel, Dr Ramani discusses narcissism and different subtypes and profiles thereof, narcissistic traits and characteristics, and things we end up doing in response or to cope with these issues.  She also provides advice on what to do.  She has several playlists, one of which was a glossary of sorts, with each video covering a single term, phrase, or concept in-depth, in plain language (complete with examples), so as to provide a clear, real-life understanding.

Although I didn’t at the time, I later identified these traits, displayed very subtly but very clearly and significantly, in my own partner.  Dr Ramani is world-renowned, a PhD and professor at UCLA, and is one of the ffcccoremost experts in this entire field.  I highly recommend!

The Little Shaman – I came across Little Shaman next, also when learning more about narcissism and such relationships.  She’s not a formally-trained or licensed/certified professional that I’m aware of (although I could be wrong), but she certainly has her own story, having been through her own first-hand experience.  She discusses various subtopics, too, even delving into our side of the relationship–the types of people that tend to attract–and be attracted to–narcissistic personalities.

Lisa Romano –   Lisa is a life coach from New York City.  She’s brilliant, kind, and firsthand-experienced herself.  She’s calm, spiritual, and proactive, and a shining example of how one can actually rise above, heal from, and truly transcend these types of relationships.

Like Dr Ramani, Lisa’s channel features lots of videos on narcissism itself, as well as different aspects of these people and the dynamics of relationships with them.  She, too, outlines the topic in plain language with examples.

Lisa’s channel, though, is different, in that she has a whole category of material on codependency and overcoming it.  Therein lies the rub; we usually end up in toxic relationships if there’s something about us that attracts them to us and us to them.  To move forward, it’s crucial to do some inner soul-searching and healing.

Psych 2 Go – this channel is perfect for psychology and relationship topics delivered in bite-size pieces for those with Ritalin deficiencies (heh) or just looking for some quick, user-friendly info.  Their videos are short-and-sweet, down-to-earth explanations of different topics and situations.  Their information is pretty much spot-on.

Positive Thinking, Health, Living a Better Life

FridayKiss – this channel is hard to define.  It’s a fun trick-or-treat grab-bag of non-denominational spirituality, thought-provoking quotes, some natural health tips, and generally living more positively, with better quality of life.  Good for those who like wisdom, open-mindedness, and other random goodness.

Buddhist Society of Western Australia – I discovered this channel a few years ago as well, and really appreciated their down-to-earth, reality-based talks.  They record free live sessions where they give talks on different real-life topics, like disappointment and resentment, reframing them to encourage us to perceive them differently, in a more healthy way.  It’s not ethereal, unrealistic, or holier-than-thou.  You don’t have to be a monk to follow their thinking and enjoy the videos.  Hell, you don’t even have to be Buddhist to identify with their viewpoints or understand their concepts.

Yoga with Adriene – this is an excellent yoga channel.  Adriene provides guided demos of different yoga routines.  Many videos are very short, as little as 5 minutes, although there are some longer ones, too (30 minutes or so), so there’s a nice variety.  There are different ones for different purposes, like waking up and beginning the day, awakening your inner artist, relaxation, yoga at home, yoga for beginners, etc.

It’s perfect for beginners, those in a hurry, or those who want to practice yoga for different specific purposes.  You don’t have to be super-flexible or strong to practice these, nor do you have to be any kind of expert to be successful at it, nor does it have to take much time.

MyMycolab – this is a phenomenal channel hosted by Dr Andrew Campbell, one of the world’s leading experts on mold, mycotoxins (the reason mold exposure can cause so many health problems), and their effects on human health.  He connects mycotoxins with various disorders and diseases and their symptoms – autoimmune disorders, GI problems, the brain and cognitive issues, and even various subsets (not all) of the autism spectrum.

This channel is excellent for doctors and patients alike, or anyone else who wants to know more about mold and the impact of exposure, without having to sift through bullshizz claims and online “protocols” that cost a lot of money and don’t work in the end.

Gardening

Tikki O – this channel is all about growing – sprouts, microgreens, and even various full-size foods.  Examples include broccoli sprouts, bean sprouts, parsley microgreens, and even lettuce.  I really enjoy her simple explanations, level-headedness, and no-nonsense delivery.  She’s comprehensive and thorough, while being succinct and to the point.  Many of her videos provide an excellent how-to, while others put different techniques and practices to the test, running side-by-side “experiments” to validate claims or invalidate myths surrounding growing and gardening.  She also has a lot of DIY tips, so that you don’t have to spend much money on supplies and equipment.

Her channel is perfect for those who would like to begin growing sprouts, microgreens, or learn other gardening.  Anything you can grow at home, you don’t have to pay bigger money for at the grocery store, and you can enjoy it fresh!

Khang Starr – this channel is another gardener/grower, only he focuses on different foods, such as other green leafy veggies, peppers, herbs, and aloe.  His explanations are pretty clear, and he shows you how to grow different crops in different household items.

This channel is perfect for anyone looking to grow foods, especially peppers, at home, using different supplies you might already have.

Miscellaneous:

Mastering the Zodiac – this channel is run by Athen, a long-time astronomer who’s newer to astrology.  Using his knowledge of astronomy and the actual constellations, he single-handedly retooled the zodiac to realign it with the constellations, which is where it has always belonged in the first place.  The result: a completely different system, with different dates.  It’ll turn everything you know about astrology on its head: the signs vary in size/length, the houses are equal slices with no interceptions, and most plants shift signs (you may–or may not–be what you always thought you were!).  Dilate your mind and try it on for size and have fun!

This channel is good for people who want to learn about this system, as his explanations are very good.  It’s also good for those wanting a general “forecast” of themes for the day.  He even gives a “year ahead” video at the end of the year.  His knowledge lacked the depth of an experienced astrologer, at least in the beginning; he relied a lot on keywords to describe planets and signs, without giving much by way of real-life examples, but with any luck, that’s changed.  The “forecasts” are more general and not personalized (not even by different signs), so I’m not sure how useful they are, but they’ll be true for everyone in some area of life 🙂

Hope you’ve enjoyed this edition!  Here are all the past editions 🙂
